#artIn the three-person capstone exhibition, Woven Reflection, presented by the College of Arts and Sciences Studio Art Program in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, with a catered opening reception scheduled for Wednesday, April 12th from 5-6:30 pm at the Lukacs Gallery in Loyola Hall ground floor, Chris Maidoh, Chloe Pappas and Sarah Walsh present individual visual work created and developed over the semester. Their series and installations gives evidence of a deep reflection on the metaphoric notion of journey, as an exploration of interior states of being interwoven with directed forays into the physical environment. In her exhibition titled As Time Goes By, Pappas uses materials and processes that focus on traditional handcrafting, creating a series of intersecting pieces that are personal and sometimes playful explorations of common idioms. Through the use of a circular mirror placed in varying landscapes, Walsh's mural-sized photography series, titled Transportive Reflection, focus on refracted images, suggesting portals to disjointed alternate realities. In an expansive installation titled Family in the Reflectionin which a centralized mirror is surrounded by portraits painted on textured blue canvases, Maidoh invites viewers to place themselves in the middle of a celebration, both of his culture and as part of his loving and extended relatives and community in Nigeria and the United States.
