Fairfield University’s MFA Program invites writers and literary enthusiasts to the Spring 2026 Writers Colloquium, a full-day gathering of readings, discussion, and hands-on writing workshops, held at Fairfield University’s Austin campus. The workshop is from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Hosted by MFA faculty Phil Klay and Matt Gallagher, the colloquium will offer participants an immersive experience rooted in craft, conversation, and community. Attendees will engage in readings and discussions, connect with MFA faculty, and take part in generative writing workshops designed to explore shared themes in an intimate, collaborative setting.

Phil Klay is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and National Book Award–winning author of Redeployment. His novel Missionaries was named a top book of 2020 by The Wall Street Journal and former President Barack Obama. His essays and journalism have appeared in major outlets including The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker. He teaches fiction at Fairfield University, and his essay collection Uncertain Ground was published by Penguin Press in 2022.

Matt Gallagher is the author of four books, including the novels Daybreak and Youngblood, a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. He’s also covered the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as a correspondent for Esquire and Arrowsmith Journal. A U.S. Army veteran, Gallagher teaches in the Fairfield University MFA program.

Coffee, lunch, and a closing reception will be provided, and there is no cost to attend.
