Looking Through The Glass (Opening Reception)
About this Event
Loyola Drive, Fairfield, CT
Artists Karly Moscarello and Liza Leever worked with printmaking for this installation, carrying on their print work and technical skills learned last semester in Professor Yarrington’s printmaking class. For this exhibition, they worked together to create prints surrounding self-preservation. Exploring identity and battling mental health, their projects make visible the challenges one goes through when growing up and the hidden lessons learned along the way.
Karly examines her expression of shifting self identity from the start of her freshman year to her senior year. Her main way of visually exploring identity was through her hair. Using varying hairstyles and colors helped her feel more connected to herself and others. Her use of abstraction emphasizes the importance of her use of hair as an identifier.
Liza utilized numerous windows to personify her healing journey, following her struggles with mental health. Her goal was to display how she navigates her ups and downs. Each window represents a different emotional moment, expressed through symbolic variations in color. She included stitching as a way to metaphorically speak about the act of mending herself during her darkest times. Her hope is to bring awareness to every individual who is dealing with similar journeys, to encourage them to find their own unique ways of healing, and to know that no one has to suffer alone.
The Exhibition will be running from March 27th to March 29th
